The importance of keeping a healthy body is especially true for people who belong to professions that require a lot of physical activity. However, it is no less applicable to those who work in front of a desk all day, such as computer programmers and web designers. If you’re saying that they don’t really need exercise as much, then you’d be dead wrong. That’s exactly the thing: not being able to have a lot of physical activity is bad for your health. With that in mind, it’s only right that we come up with ways on how to keep ourselves in tiptop condition. So, we’re here to give you a few suggestions on how to do just that.
First of all, exercise isn’t always the key. Sometimes, maintenance is a good prevention tool from one’s potentially harmful lifestyle. Case in point: the way that we sit on a chair. Keeping a good posture plays a huge part in maintaining your body’s structure and circulation, so always keep in mind that you should sit straight up rather than slump down on your chair while you work. In doing so, you’re reducing the amount of pressure you’re placing on your back and neck, which allows you to be more flexible. Additionally, you should maintain your computer at eye level to avoid straining your neck by having to look up or down, depending on the height of your chair, so get to adjusting and hit that sweet spot!
It’s also ideal to have sturdy footrest to place your walkers on in order to relieve some of the back pressure you get from sitting down. Aside from that, your back should rest straight on the chair’s back; it’s its purpose, after all. And although it may seem comfortable at times, but remember that you should try to avoid hunching forward in front of your computer as much as possible, since the strain it puts on your neck and back adds pressure that may cause some very unpleasant headaches.
As a programmer or designer, you’re bound to the computer for the majority of any given day, and this makes it easier for you to forget some really basic hygiene practices amidst all the work you’re doing. We’re telling you, though, that you should make an effort to take a break and head on to the shower from time to time to cleanse, relax, and relieve yourself. Of course, if you’re doing this, you might as well do it with a nice bathroom fixture. If you don’t know what we’re talking about, then you should know there some great shower head reviews here you can refer to.
Going from the bathroom and right back to the computer desk, a proper way to set your monitor is not by having your eyes placed in the middle of the screen. Instead, the monitor’s top third area should be the one lined up with your eyes in order to avoid strains.
And finally, do a bit of stretching every hour or so. You can thank us later when you realize how better you feel afterwards. Good luck!
